The Degree in Engineering in Industrial Design organizes, again, this year and from its 'Design and Product' subject, the Tech Day conference cycle, focused on a specific topic. The edition of this academic year 2017-2018 is dedicated to design and circular economy. What would happen if the waste were transformed into raw materials that had an economic value? Under this framework, "Design for the circular economy" aims to reflect on new codes of value for the design and development of proposals and innovative and sustainable design solutions. Processes, matter and science are key elements for this, as well as the creation of synergies and the creation of a new socio-economic model that minimizes the impact on nature.
Introduction to the "Design for the circular economy" conference
Dr. Oscar Tomico. Head of Studies of the Degree in Industrial Design Engineering.
Jessica Fernández. Responsible for the area of Projects of the Degree in Industrial Design Engineering.
Dr. Pere Llorach. Responsible for the Sustainability area of the Degree in Industrial Design Engineering. Moderator of the event.
Lecture 1: «Inspiration talk: Design systems and not only products»
Speaker: Simon Widmer (lecture in English)
Project manager of the Ellen Macarthur Foundation. Its mission is to inspire and support designers in the creation of products, services and circular systems. He has developed the Circular Design Guide and has directed The New Plastics Economy project and theRethinking the future of plastics initiative.
Lecture 2: «Upcycling Matter and Shape»
Speaker: Sara de Ubieta.
Architect and artisan. Sheconsiders materials as one of the main agents in circular economies. Her interest and study focus on the understanding of the deep relationship between matter and form.
Lecture 3 «Closing the loop in Barcelona»
Industrial Designer by the Winchester School of Art, Southampton University. His proposals are based on a design work closely committed to the philosophy of the circular economy.
Layers. Marta Vidal. Speculative Designer.
DESIS Lab ELISAVA: Open Design Workshop Sitges. Alberto Martinez Design Research.
From the classrooms, "Elevator Pitch"
The second-year students of the Degree in Industrial Design Engineering will show their value proposals based on the research carried out for the design from two-dimensional materials.
